- Justification for this program and stuff.
- The Black Widowers' catchphrase: 'Justify your
- existence.', recently used in Red Dwarf by an Inquisitor
- like Rick Priestly never dreamed of (what happened to Ian
- Watson's 'Inquisition War' series?), is not a pleasant
- demand. Especially if you're a sub-12k BASIC program.
- But you have to submit to the grilling, yes? So...
- -JUSTIFY YOURSELF.
- -Well, I can do lots of things. I can display text files
- in windows, I can display sprite and draw files in
- windows, and I can run other programs. All from within
- a really nice window with sprites in.
- -BUT IS IT NOT THE CASE THAT YOU DON'T DO IT VERY WELL?
- -I wouldn't say...
- -IS IT NOT TRUE THAT YOUR TEXT DISPLAYING ROUTINES ARE
- RUDIMENTARY TO SAY THE LEAST?
- -Well...
- -AND THAT YOU DON'T KNOW HOW BIG YOUR DRAWFILES ARE?
- -Oh...
- -AND THAT 256 COLOUR SPRITES ARE DECIDEDLY *DODGY*?
- -I wouldn't...
- -AND, TO CAP IT ALL, YOU CANNOT DO ANYTHING BETTER THAN
- RISC-OS CAN!
- -Oh, but who could?
- -FLATTERY WILL GET YOU NOWHERE. YOU ARE ACCUSED OF BEING
- SUPERFLUOUS. HOW DO YOU PLEAD?
- -Not guilty. I can help by having meaningful icons which
- launch various media. I promise to get better!
- -HMMM. ALRIGHT THEN.
- -That's it? No impressive speech?
- -NO <bell> I've just gone off duty.
-
- Seriously though, it's not /that/ bad, it will get
- better, and I did write it on the beach.
-
- Now, I would really like to get in touch with anyone
- fulfilling any one of the below categories:
-
- -anyone who's written a desktop application in C using
- DeskLib. I simply cannot save data: my message_DATASAVE
- causes address exceptions & other really bad stuff.
- -anyone interested in writing BattleTech software - just
- imagine a proper Battlemech sim...
- -anyone interested in writing or drawing graphic
- adventures, like Monkey Island/Day of the Tentacle.
- -anyone who knows what this character's for: ç.
- Surely not an abbreviation for 2097152?
- -anyone interested in writing a bridge-playing program.
